KEELING, Sarah Reichard

Source: Reichard Family History

Sarah Emaline Reichard Keeling, daughter of William and Sarah Reichard, was born in a log cabin near Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina Nov 28, 1857. At the age of 13, the family came to Fountain County and settled near Kingman, Ind. She was married to Dexter Keeling, who had served his country in War of the Rebellion, as a member of Company C, 116th Indiana Infantry, deceased since 1895. Eight children were born in this union: Mrs. Gertie Sowers of near Wallace, Ind; Jas. William of Veedersburg; Mrs. Adia Fritz of Highpoint, NC; Ora Keeling of Bridgeport, Ind; Mrs. Murley Weaver of Wallace; Mrs. Odessa Campbell of Hillsboro and Clifford Keeling of Crawfordsville.  One daughter, Mrs. Augusta Keller deceased 1910.  Other surviving relatives include three stepchildren, Mrs. Elva Clore and Owen Keeling of Waveland, Ind and Mrs. Louis Shuler of Marshall, Ind; two brothers D.L. Reichard of Crawfordsville and John Reichard of Ubana, Ill; one sister, Nora Reichard of Crawfordsville; also 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  The greatest part of her life was spent in this community except for some 25 years residence in Crawfordsville. The past few years were enjoyed in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Murley Weaver whose loving kindness and ministrations brought her through many weeks of patient suffering to the morning of Sept 26, 1936 when she peacefully passed away.  Aunt Emeline was truly an exemplary christian character whose devotion to home and family was such that "her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her." A cheerful word and smile was her greeting always and she consistently maintained a philosophy of life to always speak the good, leaving the harm unsaid. And so she has bestowed a heritage of faith in humanity and christian living - a faith expressed in the words of the poet "He who from zone to zone guides through the boundless sky thy certain flight. In the long ways that I must tread alone will lead my steps aright!"
